Conflict and Mining
Diamond Mines are a major source of funds for rebel groups that control the mines. They are able to get away with selling their diamonds because they sell them to large markets via the use of a middleman in order to mask their true origins. Rebel Groups also treat villagers with no respect and maim and kill them for minor crimes. Official security forces are often just as corrupt, taking control of mines they "liberate" for personal profit |
Affect on Economy
Although Villagers are forced to work in them mines for low wages and bad conditions, their local economies are completely dependent on it. However, the mines themselves are very profitable, pulling in millions for their owners. Almost none of this money makes it back down to the miners, Forcing their children to work making education out of the question and leaving no way out. |
